                                                                                HE ALREADY KNEW

I was in the grocery store last week picking up dinner for my 94 year-old dad. He loves the pre-made turkey/stuffing/potato dinner so I grabbed that and headed across the store for ice cream. Along the way, I passed the coffee aisle and remembered dad had asked for a bag of coffee a week ago. I never buy coffee in this store but I figured I would see if anything was on sale. I was quite pleased that a brand my dad drank decades ago was $2 off. I thought that made the price reasonable so I grabbed it and thanked the Lord for this blessing. I picked up the ice cream and headed to the register. There were two registers wide open so of course I headed to the closest one. The attendant there was a rather gruff and tough looking individual so I headed to the open one three lanes down. I placed my items on the belt and immediately noticed a small piece of white paper on the floor. It looked like a coupon but I figured there was no chance it would be for anything I ever buy. Something said pick it up so I did. It was surprisingly for the brand of coffee I had just bought, but I figured there’d be some kind of catch or I had the wrong thing. The cashier looked it over meticulously and finally declared, “Looks good to me!” It was for $1.50. I’m extremely frugal, (a minimalist if you ask my friends!) so I was tickled. As I left the store, I got an even bigger blessing as the Lord spoke clearly to my heart.  “Do you ever buy coffee in this store?” He asked.

“No Lord.”

“Do you ever buy this brand?”

“No Lord.”

“Did you expect to get $1.50 off?”

“No Lord.”

“Was this coffee on sale?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Was that the reason you picked out this brand?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Did you remember your dad drinking this coffee decades ago?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Did you want to go to the closest open register?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Did you feel like passing up the first register when you saw the cashier?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Did you see the coupon on the floor?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Did you want to pick it up?”

“No Lord.”

“Did you anyway?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Was it worth a large discount on the coffee you never buy in the store you never buy coffee?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Do you think I knew it was on the floor, and in the lane you would ultimately pay for your groceries?”

“Yes Lord.”

“Do you see how I arranged all of this to bless you and even used your own choices and decisions to direct you to the product, register and coupon I placed there to let you know I have your life, your future and my incredible plans for you to be generously unfolded at just the right time in the right way?”

“Wow God! Holy cow! You are amazing!”

“Yes I am. So you can trust me. I know what I am doing and just when and how to do it. I planned all this even before you got to the store.  I have good things in store for you, even when it feels like life is completely random, or like nothing at all is happening! (Jerem. 29:11) I can even take the bad things in life and turn them for good if you love me and are called according to my purpose. (Rom. 8:28)

“Lord I thank you and praise you that you can reveal your glory and amazing plans for my life just from a quick trip to the grocery store! You are so good!”

Remember that the next time you visit the valley, feel stuck in God’s ‘holding pattern’, or begin to doubt His plans or goodness toward you.  He knows exactly what He’s doing. He’s amazingly good. He’s incredibly creative! And He’s never late!
